Periodically, Ethiopia requires the coordination of assistance from the diaspora in order to meet the needs of Ethiopians in Ethiopia. Because the multiple organizations in the New York Tri-State serving Ethiopians in the area are focused on the needs of residents in the NY Tri-State area, there is a need for a group with a focus on the needs in Ethiopia. Wegen Le Wegen: New York Tri-State for Ethiopia (WLW) is an initiative designed to respond to those needs. This is best reflected in the creation of the Ethiopia COVID-19 Relief Fund Task force.  The Task Force was launched in response to a call from the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia to the UN (Mission) to mobilize the diaspora community to help mitigate the impact COVID-19 in Ethiopia.  Through that work, the Task Force recognized the need for a standing long-term group to address challenges in Ethiopia beyond COVID-19.  Wegen Le Wegen was launched as a result and will be operating independently from the Permanent Mission.
